St Patrick’s Day
Without a doubt st Patrick’s Day is now one of the most celebrated feast days in the world. Synonomous with drinking, eating, partying and parading the day is celebrated worldwide.
How did the celbration get to be such a day of excess? The saints day that is being celebrated falls right in the middle of the Christian season of abstinance and attonement, Lent, the church gave permission for the rules surrounding consumption of food and alchohol to be suspended for this one dayand so this was taken full advantage of by the fun and party loving Irish! We have them to thank for the format and colours of this unique celebration.
So what are the traditional ingredients to celebrating St Patrick’s Day? Well lashings of beer of course, Guiness if you can stomach it, any other Cocktail of your choice and meat (traditionally corned beef/bacon and cabbage).
I love this celebration and not just because it is 3 days before my birthday!
St Patrick’s Day celebrations are fairly raucous affairs and can be expenssive for anyone that is throwing the party, so why not pitch in and get your host a maningful addition to the party by way of a food hamper, food gift basket or even a beer making kit.
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
